Lakewood is situated on the west side along the shores of Lake Erie, and directly adjacent to the city of Cleveland. Lakewood has long been a popular city for homeowners and investors alike, and there is very strong demand for housing there.
Its housing stock ranges from early 1900s onward, with the bulk of it being pre-WWII. There is a nice mix of types (single family houses, duplexes, apartments) and styles. Buildings are consistently well-maintained, and the city has invested continuously in resources for residents over the years.
Lakewood benefits strongly from its position on the lake, and also has easy access to I-90 and Rt. 2, for quick commutes to downtown Cleveland or other west side suburbs.
There is a very strong sense of pride in the community, and is exceptionally stable overall.
Generally the caliber of Lakewood improves gradually as you move from the Cleveland border, at West 117th Street, toward the western boundary of the city.
There is very easy access to the red line light rail via the West 117th Street station as well.
